As mentioned, with the exception of TJ Jr, the Top Fuel field was something of an odds buster, and twenty something Antti Horti picked up his first pole position in FIA Top Fuel in only his second event behind Rune Fjeld’s Spitzer dragster. A 4.274 best gave Horti a first round match-up with multi-time champion Andy Carter, but the eliminations struggles of the new for 2011 Team West-Tec/Lucas Oil dragster continued for the Briton enabling Horti to take the win light despite going up in smoke at half track. A first final round appearance for the Eagle Racing driver was secured when semi-final opponent Håkan Fällström lost traction at the hit, but a stab of the throttle before the green in the final against TJ Jr ended Finnish hopes of a home victory.

After failing to record a time in the previous event in Tierp, Sweden’s Håkan Fällström had a much better outing over the Baltic in Alastaro with the Nitrobear team recording a 5th qualifying position with a mid four second pass to make the field. The first round match-up against reigning champion Urs Erbacher saw Erbacher leave first, but started hazing the slicks enabling Fällström to drive past with a car length to spare on a 4.493 to a 4.626. Some minor problems delayed the turnaround before the semis and prevented a warm-up which may have contributed to the loss against Horti but crewchief Peter Lantz had a much more positive outlook after this event.
