SPRC Summernationals, Santa Pod Raceway

The SPRC Summernationals at Santa Pod Raceway was conducted under the cloudless skies and baking hot sunshine at the end of June, with the focus on UK sportsman activity on four and two wheels, with the MSA Pro Modified category providing the headline class.

Although qualifying was a bit of a trial for team mates of Graham Ellis and Nick Davies, eliminations would yield an all Ellis Motorsport final went to the team principal who was delighted with the incremental numbers (a sub 1 second sixty foot clocking and 3.9s at the eighth on a couple of passes) on some of the runs over the weekend and although a 6.567s pass at only 166mph was enough to take the trophy the short figures indicated personal best threatening numbers are just around the corner with the Jackhammer Cuda.

Nick Davies, wheeling the Superbird with a turbocharged powerplant that the ICE Automotive duo of Davies and Rob Loaring are trying to set up for Ellis this season. It’s been a frustrating experience so far with a ramp in boost typically being accompanied by violent tireshake, but a seven flat and a runner-up finish may suggest a few steps forward in amongst the backward ones.
