Hale and Beale are upset winners at KCIR Summernationals

At the Summernationals held at Kansas City International Raceway, one of the Midwest’s iconic drag strips, the weather was blazing hot and humid all weekend but racers coped with the conditions.

The KICIR track crew delivered a racing surface with plenty of bite despite track temps above 150 degrees over the July 15-17 weekend. As a result, the fans that came to the Summernationals saw great Nitro and wheelstanding doorslammer racing.

Texas AA/FC racer John Hale made good on his announced goal of defeating the defending and two-time DRO AA/FC Challenge champion, Paul Romine. Pontiac driver Dan Beale got a career win by beating series points leader and NHRA star Al Corda in the Victory Performance Parts Nostalgia Super Stock Series race.

In the past two years Paul “The Hoosier Hitter” Romine and his team, including tuner Mike Cavalieri and car chief John Bullard, have dominated the Midwest-based series (sponsored this year by Mickey Thompson Tires with associate sponsorships from Victory Performance Parts and the Comp Cams companies). This year after two races no one is dominating the series with just five points separating current points leader and winner of the first race of the season, Doc Halladay (193 pts), Paul Romine (190 pts) and, winner of the KCIR Summernationals, John Hale (187 pts).
