MICKEY THOMPSON TIRES TRUE 10.5

This class has always been the WCHRA's biggest Heads-Up class, and a real fan and racer favorite with the performances and diversity of cars and powerplants.

Dave Boles (shown) was trying to hold on to his points lead and just needed to tech and get a first round win to lock up his first heads-up championship, but this wasn’t a gimme. With the return of Holder, Hoyle and Patrick, there would be some tough competition for sure.

True 10.5 is the perfect example why the WCHRA runs 1/8th mile as it allows different combos that wouldn’t otherwise be able to compete. Just look at the top five qualifiers: Rich Hoyle rolled his old 1963 Chevy II with its new lighter chrome moly chassis he built himself powered by a nitrous small block Chevy out of the trailer without even a test run and took the #1 spot with a 4.81 at 149 mph, followed by Roger Holder’s 4.84 in his first race with a new combo (TT BBC 2002 Camaro), Dave Bowman’s 4.85 (TT SBC '02 Camaro), Dave Boles 4.93 (N2o BBC '63 Nova), Lonnie Patrick 5.11 (TT BBC Malibu), Scott Graham (N2o BB Cuda), Rob Allen (N2o BBC '65 Chevelle), Roger Rydell (Roots BBC '67 Chevelle) and Johnny Coleman (BBC F-3 '69 Camaro).

In Round 1 of Eliminations Boles advanced with a 5.68/146 over Allen, who had problems on the starting line. This locked up the 2011 TT5 Championship for Dave Boles.

Lonnie Patrick

In the next pair Rydell took a slight advantage on the line (.038 to .046) and the win with a 4.94/155 after Bowman spun the tires to a 10.88/51. Lonnie Patrick took the bye when his opponent, Scott Graham, couldn’t make the Sunday event, and Holder also singled after Coleman had problems with the gear drive on his supercharger.
