OUTLAW 10.5

In the Accufab Outlaw 10.5 class there were a total of five entries and Gary Soulages led the pack in his twin-turbo 2004 Ford pickup truck with a new class ET record of 6.641. Not far behind in the number two spot was 2011 class champion Ron Weems in his naturally aspirated 2007 GTO with a 6.799. Mike Sasina, Gary Ross and Lawrence Drake rounded out the rest of the order.

Just like the Pro Street class it came down to the top two qualifiers in the final round and after a bit of a staging duel Soulages picked up the event win with a 6.682 over Weems 6.873.

The MagnaFuel Extreme Drag Radial/True 10.5 class had the biggest field of the heads up classes with eight cars entered. It was an exciting class with nitrous, turbo and supercharged cars competing closely together, and is one of the two heads up classes racing eighth-mile this season. Rich Hoyle qualified in the top spot with his 1963 Nova followed by Mark Lutton in the twin-turbo MMR 2012 GT500 Mustang. Al Jimenez landed in the third spot and Roger Rydell rounded out the top half of the field in his roots-blown 1967 Chevelle. Johnny Coleman, Dana Cook, David Singletary and Shawn Beavers filled the bottom half of the field.

After the first round the top four qualifiers advanced to the semis and it ended up being a Rich Hoyle and Al Jimenez final round. Hoyle got an early lead off the line and slowly pulled away for the event win with a 4.768 to Jimenez’s 4.848.
