SUPER CAR SHOWDOWN

The Super Car Showdown is also a new class for the ADRL this 2012 season, put together by veteran announcer Bret Kepner. Although only five racers showed up for this first event, they put on one heck of a show for the Royal Purple Raceway fans, who seemed thoroughly impressed by the unique racecars. One of the most appealing things about the Super Car Showdown is the cars are sold at the dealerships and the fans in the stands can most likely relate to these cars and the power plants they use and times they run.

Fords ruled the event as Chris Holbrook set the bar high by qualifying number one with a 5.756 at 120.21 driving a 2012 Mustang. Bo Butner, also driving a 2012 Mustang, was number two with a 5.838 at 119.40 followed by Joseph Teuton in the quickest Dodge Challenger with a 5.885 at 118.74. Kevin Helms landed fourth with a 6.053/115.48 in a 2011 Challenger and David Buckner rounded out the field in his 2009 Challenger with a 6.073/113.24.

Eliminations were a little tricky for the Super Car Showdown (SCS) class as the quicker of the two first-round losers were brought back for round two to make it an even four cars in the semifinals. Holbrook got the ladder bye in round one and automatically would be back for second round. Teuton defeated Buckner but couldn’t make the second round call so Buckner took Teuton’s place in the semis. Butner beat Helms in first round but because the quickest loser would be back for round two Helms was reinserted into the semifinals. After round one all drivers, except Teuton, came back for round two where the finalist would be determined.
