Friday

The dominant performer on Friday was the brand new Nitro Harley drag bike built and owned by veteran Jay Turner, who spent a majority of his off-season building a brand new unique bike featuring a longer wheelbase and headers on both sides of the bike. This was in place of the two exhaust pipes on one side of the bike, which has been the standard for some time.

The new Nitro Harley, which is quite a bit longer than the other bikes with some added weight, blasted down the quarter-mile with dual flames kissing the ground as he rode to a final round 6.526/208.53 to storm past Stordeur who ran a 7.605/155.82 to get  his seventh career Nitro Jam win.

Turner debuted the “Big Pig” in front of a large Friday crowd, racing rival Harley rider Steve Dorn, and ripping off a solid 6.470 at just 198.59. In the second and final race on Friday, Turner, with flames spewing from both pipes for the entire quarter-mile, ran a 6.526/208.53 to Jake Stordeur’s shutoff 7.605/155.82. That pass earned Turner his seventh career Nitro Jam win.

After the race Turner said of his performance, “Everyone had doubts about this bike, but we knew what it was capable of. We heard it all, but mostly people thought it was just too heavy to go fast.” Obviously his critics were wrong.

In the consolation round, Steve Dorn beat Mike Scott.
