Texas Blown Fuel Association

Oklahoman, Steve Mathews (Ardmore) took home the ‘Woody’ in the Blown Fuel finals over Stepheville’s Chris Stouffer. Mathews, driving 1970 Woody Gilmore, B&M blown 355 Chevy, knocked out 2011 champ Stouffer in his ‘Defiant’ 355 SBC with leave of .010. Stouffer, who ran nearly an identical time to Mathews could never recover ground from the start.

Mathews was fast qualifier after the two sessions, with a blast of 7.579, while Stouffer closely followed in second turning a 7.726. Both utilized runs in the 7.60’s to make it to the finals.

Southwest Junior Fuel Association

Ricky Marshall (shown), 7.377/166.42 defeated Ron Muncy, 8.227/159.86.

Ricky Marshall (Burleson) was able to drive around Ron Muncy to take home the hardware in the SWJFA final round. The “Back in Black” 406ci SBC, Hanson Chassis of Marshall gave up almost .25 on green then ran down Muncy on the big end to snag the victory.

Marshall led the way in both qualifying runs, while Muncy worked his way from the bottom of the ladder, aided by a red light win and bye. Marshall had two bye runs, but had to take out 2010 class champion, Richard Brady in round two.

Bracket Finals

Paul Schneider, in his AMC outperformed Dustin Bradford on both ends to take the win. Schneider got a couple of breaks along the way to the final round with red light wins, while Bradford, in ’27 Altered worked his way through, with consistent runs. Paul Schneider, 13.911 at 96.22 defeated Dustin Bradford, 9.619 at 139.15.

9.00 index

Steve Vontour jumped ahead with a better light in his ‘67 Chevy II against Jesse Vester in a ’40 Willys and increased his margin down the track for the win as Vester had his problems. Vontour ran 9.478 at 142.27 and Vester slowed to a 12.233 at 111.52 mph.

10.00 index

The ‘27 roadster of Robert Vinton used a nearly perfect .003 light and a 10.03 run at 128.98 mph to edge out Alvin Balwin’s ‘69 Chevy Nova which clocked a 10.078 at 132.47.

12.00 index

Gilbert Tejedo’s ’55 Chevy had a bye run in the 12.00 index, which was probably a good thing as he would have broken out.

13.00 index

It was a Ford vs Chevy showdown for the 13.00-second index with Mark Hallock’s ’55 Chevy pitted against the ’32 Ford of Howard Bevers. Bevers got the holeshot, but then broke out on the top end with a 12.843, giving the win to Hallock’s 13.163 at 90.69

14.00 index

It was another bye run final, for another ’55 Chevy as John Graves took home the trophy for the class.

15.00 index

Arlon Jahns took his ’63 Ford down the track uncontested in the 15.00-second index for the victory.

San Antonio Raceway resumes regular racing on Wednesday night, May 9, with a test-n-tune, plus Battle of the Brands, test-n-tune on Friday, May 11, and Midnight Madness on Saturday, May 12. Memorial weekend SAR hosts a three-day Sportsman Spectacular (May 25-27).

The Outlaw Fuel Altereds return to action during Memorial Day (May 25) weekend at Texas Raceway in Kennedale. The Blown Fuel Association is back on track May 19, along with the Southwest Junior Fuel Association at North Star Dragway in Denton. All three associations will take part in the Texas State Championships at San Antonio Raceway on Oct. 27.
