Ladies are admitted into the Fox Hunt race for free, or for $10 they can purchase a pit pass. This was done at a great many tracks in Southern California back in the day, and the modus operandi of Firebird is to run drag races as it was done in the past.

The West Coast Outlaw Pro Mods were the headliners at the 35th Annual Little Caesars Pizza Fox Hunt at Firebird Raceway, but things didn’t go exactly as planned.

Scheduling conflicts, diesel prices, an NMCA West event in Bakersfield and a major ADRL race in Virginia depleted the number of cars to five at Boise. Unfortunately, the Lucas Racing ‘68 Camaro suffered irreparable damage to the four-link suspension on the first qualifying session for the Pro Mods and this sent Team Lucas back to Seattle early Saturday morning.

However, always the promoters extraordinaire, the New family took lemons and made lemonade. They brought in four nostalgia alcohol funny cars to help fill the show and these guys really stepped up to the plate. The cars were great looking and put on a super show.

Greg Howland, driver of the Zeus Corvette, is a wild man. He did something that has never been seen at Firebird or at any other track for the fact: A quarter-mile burnout!

However, on Friday Mother Nature took over the controls right after the first session of Pro Mod qualifying and conjured up quite a sand and wind storm that put the remaining Sportsman action off until Saturday morning.

Saturday dawned with bright sunshine and warm temps as the finals that were postponed from Friday were run. Troy Pecht and Lisa Thomas were the big winners in Super Pro and Pro.

Father and son, Mark and Rayce Kidd. Rayce won Super Pro on Saturday and sister Marissa won Box Gambler.
