FIA Pro Modified

A firm favourite for the first turbo car into the fives in Europe, Martin Lundkvist whispered to the first 250mph+ clocking in Pro Modified qualification with a 6.027/250.78 taking fourth spot on the ladder. Although the turbo’d Camaro didn’t deliver a suitable back-up to set this as the speed record, a 247.63mph run earlier in qualifying snagged the speed record and a 6.014 win in the first round of eliminations improved Lundkvist’s ET PB. A first final round berth at FIA level came with victory over Marc Meihuizen at semifinal stage, not a bad return for the former Comp standout, and a spectacular bounceback from sideswiping the wall in the final qualifying session.

A more familiar red Camaro in the final was Micke Gullqvist as the reigning class champion assumed the points lead thanks, in part, to Bruno Bader’s first round exit. Gullan used a 5.981 for second place in qualifying and a pair of 5.98s at the quarters and semifinal stage booked a final round berth, although the latter required a sizeable holeshot over a dozing Johan Lindberg to keep ahead of the latter’s sub-Euro record 5.926.

FIA Pro Modified saw a bumper 31 entries trying to make race day, with a 6.262 bump spot (held by Freddie Fagerström) being a shade off the European quickest 16 car field (6.240 set at Tierp last year). The appearance of Terje Håkonsen and the Mekk Pontiac at the top of the sheets with a 5.968 was something of a surprise, lopping a huge chunk off the Norwegian’s PB, although the prospect of improving was curtailed by a line of fluid appearing on the racing surface during his first round burnout.
