Illinois racer Anthony Bronge, another car tuned by Newman, eased to a 6.289/230.47 while Paul Romine, making his first start for “Crop Duster” team owner Frank Ousley after parking and selling his “Man O’ War” team, ran a 5.836/230+ effort.

Hale and his Mike Burkhart tribute Camaro faced Wayne Melllinger’s Vette, making its first appearance with the series. Hale struggled to a 5.986/246.73 while Mellinger shocked the troops with a 5.908 at just 218.90 mph. Don Schumacher Racing tuner Brian Corradi has a hand in tuning this new car and it showed in their performance.

The last pair out featured second generation driver Mike Minick driving Troy Martin’s “Chi-town Hustler” tribute Mopar and Marc White driving his Fred Mandoline-tuned “Flashback” Pontiac GTO. Minick blew the tires off immediately and coasted to a 7.40 lap while White scooted down track with a 5.90/209 early shut-off pass.
