Whiteley and Thompson top winners at Motorplex

In the final results from Texas Motorplex and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Jim Whiteley, Grand Junction, Colo., and Clint Thompson, Klamath Falls, Ore., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Whiteley (near lane) worked his way through the field and ran 5.275 seconds at 271.68 mph in his final round victory over Chris Demke, Tujunga, Calif., who clocked in at 5.739 seconds, 263.77 mph.

Thompson (far lane) faced off against Tony Bartone, Long Island City, N.Y., and posted a winning run of 5.591 seconds, 259.46 mph in his ’09 Monte Carlo. Bartone drove to a 5.685 second, 260.36 mph lap for his runner up finish.

Bringing home the win in both Super Comp and Super Gas was Tommy Phillips, Forney, Texas. Phillips ran 8.907 seconds at 160.46 mph in Super Comp over Austin Williams, Burleson, Texas. In Super Gas Phillips ran 9.911 seconds at 149.08 mph defeating Jimmy Lewis, Forney, Texas, to get his second victory of the day.
