Racing across the European continent has been badly impacted this year by the weather thanks to a blocking pattern in the jet stream, and it was perhaps no surprise that the UK domestic season was curtailed early when a blanket of rain (that would later trigger off widespread flooding elsewhere in the country) arrived at lunchtime on eliminations day. With only two of the principal sportsman events run to a conclusion this year, those who had managed to take wins in the completed events had a considerable leg-up in the championship points so, if this report has something of a familiar ring to it, blame that meandering jet stream.
