Multi-time Pro Modified national event winner Von Smith drove his Howard Moon-tuned Al-Anabi Racing Camaro to the win in the season opener for NHRA Pro Mods at the Gatornationals on March 17. Twenty teams were on hand with just 16 qualifying slots available. Smith defeated Chip King in a match-up between Smith’s supercharged entry and King’s turbocharged Hemi-powered ’69 Dodge Daytona. It was Smith’s fourth NHRA final round and veteran King’s first.
