Tony Aneian, defending Lucas Oil N/A 10.5 champ, bested the rest of his class by qualifying his ’68 Camaro on top of the field with an 8.09/167 run followed by running the table on his side of the ladder before facing Vic Brum in his beefy Chevelle. In that race Aneian posted an 8.07/168 victory over Brum’s 8.32/167 effort.

In ARP Outlaw 8.5, Ryan Jones took home the Wally after beating Kevin Keller in a final round battle of Chevy Novas. Jones was out first in the final round with a .015 light and never was challenged by Keller, who ended his run with a 5.41/136-mph run to Jones’s 5.04/152 winning effort. A lot of the spotlight in the class went to Jason Ayers and his day-glow green painted ’03 Mustang which lowered the ET standard for the class to 4.99 during qualifying, but Ayers ended up losing in the second round to Keller, after something broke in the driveline before the 300-foot mark.

In the index classes the new-for-2013 K&N Filters Pro Comp class was well attended and saw Paul Weichmann claim the first win of the season in his ‘Olds over the dragster of Don Meziere. Meziere, however, did make it to the winner’s circle in Edelbrock Super Quick after he beat the Nova of Kenny Snow.

Dan Geis and his Nova took home the first NHRA Unleashed Wally of the season in Burns Stainless Open Comp after beating the Mustang of Dan Marciano while Jeff Interlicchia and his familiar ’66 Coronet got the final round win light over Brent Calvert and his 2010 Mustang.

In the popular Mustang Madness class Justen Spencer and his Las Vegas-based 2000 Mustang took his first NMCA win after beating the ’79 Capri of number-one qualifier Dan Marciano.
