PRO X-TREME

The Pro X-treme class was the only professional class to have a full field at the race with 16 teams in attendance.

Terry Leggett

Qualifying was led by Terry “Legbone” Leggett from North Carolina with a 3.713/204.36. Next was track operator/racer Martin at 3.724/202 and hired driver Pesz from Texas. The number 16 qualifier was Neal Wantye from Louisville, Ky., with a 4.55.

Pesz had his best weekend in Pro X-treme competition, picking up his first win in the class by running down veteran Tim Tindle after Tindle put a .007 holeshot on him. Pesz’s 3.769/198.88 mph effort got him to the stripe just .023 of a second before Tindle, who ran a very good but not good enough 3.799/200.71 lap.

The track was especially tricky for the Pro X-treme cars.

“The problem was that we (Pro X-treme racers) were just blowing the tires off at the shift,” said Martin. “All of us were taking horsepower out at the shift point and adding as much wing as we could to get more down-force and stop the tire spin. It was unusual for this track not to hook in the middle.”

Pro X-treme winner Pesz was pumped up by his first win in the class.

“To get your first win like this, it’s just a great feeling. It’s been a long time coming,” Pesz said. “We were running strong at the end of last year and I knew we would be strong this year. It’s great to start out like this, especially at the first event and at your home track.”
