NHRA Pro Mods at Houston

Satterfield boils the Goodyears on his burnout.

Satterfield races to first series victory

Weather, track conditions and a first-time winner were all part of the Pro Mod action at Royal Purple Raceway the third tour-stop of the 2013 NHRA Pro Mod Series. New Mexico-based racer Clint Satterfield drove his supercharged ’68 Camaro from the 11th qualifying spot to his first win ever in NHRA Pro Mod competition, defeating Canadian Kenny Lang, who qualified ninth, when the Canadian “bulbed” in the final giving the New Mexico racer and the automatic victory.

Mike Knowles brought his new Tim McAmis-built ’68 Camaro to Houston.

The win in the NHRA’s quickest and fastest doorslammer class wasn’t without its share of drama. For the first time in recent memory there wasn’t a full field of Pro Mods at an NHRA race, and the weather and track prep were a factor in determining a winner. Just 14 of the fast door cars made the trek to the Texas Gulf port of Houston for the event.
