Steve Matusek is still sorting out his new twin-turbo ‘Stang.

One Pro Mod team member told DRO “The track was dangerous. They (NHRA) obviously prepped the first 60 feet and it was fine but after that we just couldn’t get a hold on the track. On Sunday there were balls of rubber all over the track and the NHRA did nothing. The NHRA crew seemed pre-occupied with the live broadcast.” The crewmember asked not to be identified for obvious reasons.

Troy Coughlin, who won the last NHRA Pro Mod race at Charlotte, was another racer who was having trouble dealing with the track and lost in the first round.

"It was kind of a tricky track out there but some guys were getting down so we should have found a way also," Coughlin said. "We made the calls we thought would work for us and this time they didn't. We got out there and just spun the tires hard. It started to settle down when the power came in, and that lifted the front end up. I was working the brakes to bring it down and when I finally did I could see I was over by the center line. I couldn't do anything.”
