Stephen Dupond recently debuted his new BAE 521 powered Mustang Top Doorslammer and had high hopes to do well at this year’s Nitro Champs but he couldn’t crack the final eight. At the Wednesday Test and Tune prior to the race Dupond nearly turned the beautiful little red car on its head in a move similar to the crash that damaged Gary Phillips’ Camaro. After a checkout 6.348 in the first qualifying session, this second qualifying run (seen here) saw the car turn right off the line to slow the momentum and in the end the 6.348 turned out to be his best pass for the weekend.

Two time American Pro Mod World Champion, Mike Janis came out to drive this pretty orange Plymouth Duster as a substitute for the injured Sean Misfud who broke his leg in a crash at the Victorian regional track at Portland in February. Janis had one of his unique looking triangular injector hats on the Jan-Cen 521 cube motor and while the engine sounded strong the car was having issues just getting down the track. This saw the car spin the tyres off the line and also have shake and other traction issues as the week progressed. In the end a best of 6.750 was only good for seventeenth out of eighteen cars on the property.
