Willie Brown (far lane) beat Aaron Glaser in the final.

Willie Brown defeated Terry Teets, Chip Forman and Mark Malcuit to meet Aaron Glaser in the final. Glaser, driving a ’69 Camaro out of Shepherdsville, Ky., had defeated Cheyenne Stanley, Ronnie Davis, and Musi to reach the final round, but broke out with a 4.122 on his 4.13 dial. Brown, Chesapeake, Va., ran 4.271 on a 4.26 dial in his ’03 Grand Am.

A Gamblers race was also run for the Top Sportsman non-qualifiers, with Steven Evans getting the win in his 2002 Avenger. Evans dialed 4.78 and got the advantage off the line then ran 4.769 while Mike Alexander in his ’63 Corvette ran a too-quick 4.628 on his 4.78 dial trying to catch up.

TOP DRAGSTER

Mars Hill, NC, driver Eddie Careccia set both the ET and speed national records during Top Dragster qualifying with his 3.974-second run at 186.36 mph. Unfortunately, he couldn’t hang onto that speed and was eliminated in the semifinal round by Wendell Howard Jr., who went on to win the class.

Alan O’Brien (far lane), Ronceverte, WV, was first off the line in the final with an unreal 0.002 RT, but could not hold on for the win with a 4.369 on his 4.33 dial. Howard, from Manassas, Va., ran 4.548 on his 4.54 dial, taking the win by 0.0078 seconds.
