After the clean up was completed Crimmins and Smith were given the signal to start the engines and race. On paper Crimmins had the performance edge over Smith based on his 5.894 qualifying effort. But that performance edge didn’t enter in the final results as Crimmins inexplicably left 0.157 before the green, red-lighting away his chance for the win.

In the other lane Smith, perhaps because there was some dew on the track, shook the tires very hard and clicked the engine off while watching Crimmins waste a spectacular 5.914/244.60 lap, giving Smith and car owner Texas Henry Gutierrez the win.
