Once again, thanks to the NHRA increasing the maximum number of Pro Mod entries at their national events, there were 24 Pro Mod teams on hand attempting to qualify for the 16 available slots.

The number one qualifier was coal baron Jim Laurita in his ’68 Camaro powered by a Brandon Switzer-tuned 872 cubic inch Reher-Morrison Electronic Fuel Injection engine. The car is a Jerry Bickel Race Cars “lightweight” reportedly built originally for the Al-Anabi teams. He ran a 5.854/245.23 in the second qualifying session and that number stood as Low ET for the event.

Canadian Kenny Lang, using an Al Billes-built and tuned supercharged 526 ci Hemi for power, was second on the list with a 5.908/246.21.

The first six qualifying spots were filled by three supercharged cars and three nitrous oxide-injected cars.
