Saturday Night Nitro at Bakersfield, Calif.

Horan Takes the Final Win

Twelve floppers made the trip to “The Patch” to compete in the final round of Auto Club Famoso’s Saturday Night Nitro on Sept. 7.

This final event in the Saturday Night Nitro series saw a change in the format.

Previously, all the cars ran first round, which generally took place around 8:30 p.m. Then the eight fastest cars would then pair up and run the second round. The two quickest winning cars from that round would then run for the title. But this took place long after the fans had headed for the exits.

Rian Konno

This time the management decided to have all the cars run first round. The quickest eight cars that won first round would pair up and come back for the second round. Then the two quickest cars that won their match up in the second round were declared the winner and runner up, respectively.

The quick eight after the first round were:
Dan Horan - 5.80
Rian Konno - 5.95
Chris Bennett - 5.97
Dwayne Patton - 6.04
Dale Van Gundy - 6.04
Shane Harter - 6.11
Todd Paton - 6.14
Rich Townsend - 6.42

Unfortunately, after the first round Van Gundy, Harter, and Townsend all found themselves with problems that prevented them from making the call for the second round.
