This year, with his father Charlie cheering him on, Jerry took on Glubke. In a very close race, Glubke’s .05 reaction and dead-on 10.00 topped Kuenster’s .06 light and .03-over 12.03. Dan Kuenster had the single into the finals and showed he was for real, cutting a .004 light and running a 10.82 on his 10.75 index.

The standing room only crowd was in a frenzy as the finals for all the classes came up. With Nitro Funny Cars and Top Fuel Cars waiting in the lanes, the two Victory NSS combatants pulled into the water. After the lights turned green, Glubke’s .05 light gave him a large advantage over Kuenster’s tardy .195 reaction and Kuenster’s Chevy broke out by .011 trying to stay ahead of Glubke’s big red Hemi. Steven Glubke had etched his place in history, winning the Victory NSS class at the 60th World Series of Drag Racing!

Most Factory Race Cars like Steven Glubke's are in collections or museums, but he is still using it for what it was made for – racing and winning.  (Matt Mothershed)

Glubke’s car is a piece of history in itself. His bright red Super Stocker is a Factory 1964 Dodge lightweight Max Wedge car. It retains the original aluminum fenders and front bumper and interior. He bought the car over 30 years ago with only 732 miles on the odometer. It now shows 1580 miles. A few of those miles came when he drove it in his wedding in 1989, but the rest came a quarter mile at a time. Glubke installed the Hemi in the Wedge car right away and has raced it like this for the past 30 years.

Congratulations on a great car and two great wins at one of the most prestigious races in the country.  (Dennis Mothershed photo)

The next race for the Victory NSS Series will be the Finals at Cedar Falls, Iowa. The points are really tight after Cordova, and once again the Victory Series will have an exciting season final!
