With a lot of help from series sponsor, Rick Allison at A&A Transmissions, Tom Gaines not only recovered from his huge transmission explosion at Cedar Falls, he went four rounds and went faster than before!  (Matt Mothershed photo)

Tom Gaines rebounded from his transmission explosion at Cedar Falls with a nice .024 reaction to move on to the next round. Tom Hoffman and Steven Glubke used .04 and .03 lights, respectively, to turn on win lights. Tommy Mitchell received a bye into the third round courtesy of his #1 Qualifying position.

Round three opened with the Cordova facility filled to capacity! Gaines started things off with a strong .04 light and an 11.02 on his 11.00 index to end Mitchell’s day. Glubke ran a 10.01 on his 10.00 index over a red lighting Brian Essary. Brothers Jerry and Dan Kuenster both used astounding .00 lights to move on. Dennis Eudaley got the bye into the next round.

The Kuenster Clan continued their winning ways in round four. Jerry won the battle of 409’s over Dennis Eudaley. Dan’s Big Block 67 Chevy ran a 10.75 on his 10.75 index to take out the Max Wedge 64 Dodge of Tom Gaines. Steven Glubke had an .02 light with a 10.02 with his consistant Hemi Dodge in his bye run.

With two of the three semi-finalists being Kuensters, the odds looked good for this racing family to win the NSS Class two years in a row at the World Series. In 2012, the leader of the family, Charlie Kuenster had an emotional victory at Cordova.
