The second stop on the 2014 IHRA Nitro Jam tour was at San Antonio Raceway Park and for the second straight race the series drew a near capacity crowd. The IHRA fans were rewarded by with great racing.

Nitro Funny Car racer Jason Rupert continued his early season domination of that class by once again qualifying on the pole, setting Top Speed and Low ET of the meet, and then winning the event for his second IHRA win in two weeks. Rupert was not the only professional racer who had a great race.

Mountain Motor Pro Stock veteran John DeFlorian not only notched his first IHRA Pro Stock win but in the process broke Brian Gahm’s seven-year-old Pro Stock speed record of 223.95 by almost three miles per hour with a backed-up 226.70 blast in the finals. DeFlorian also reset the ET record to a 6.224, which was formerly held by Frank Gugliotta.

In the Nitro Harley class Jay Turner rode Johnny Mancuso’s Harley to a 223.99 speed but couldn’t back it up for a new record. The speed record is held by Doug Vancil at 221.85 mph -- set in New York back in 2001! Randal Andras beat Turner in the Nitro Harley final.
