$100 Grand to Enders-Stevens for Vegas Sweep

March has been designated as Womens’ History Month, and history was certainly made at the last event of the month, the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Woman power reigned supreme as Alexis DeJoria and Erica Enders-Stevens raced to victories Sunday.

It was the second time that two female drivers have earned victories at the same NHRA event. In 2012, Courtney Force and Enders-Stevens made history as the first pair of females to win the same race at Pacific Raceways near Seattle.

Erica Enders-Stevens and her team got a hard-won big payday.

This weekend was especially rewarding for Enders-Stevens as she won the $50,000 K&N Horsepower Challenge for Pro Stocks – the first woman to do so – along with $25,000 for winning the Pro Stock class event and a $25,000 Sweep Bonus from NHRA.

She became the third winningest female driver in a pro class behind only Angelle Sampey and Shirley Muldowney. She left Las Vegas as the Pro Stock points leader, becoming the first female in history to lead the point standings in the factory hot rod category

When Tony Schumacher woke up in Las Vegas on Sunday morning he might have been the only racer happy with a forecast including 20-mph winds for eliminations of the NHRA Summitracing.com Nationals.

"I liked it when I heard it would be windy this weekend," he said of cross-wind conditions that can wreak havoc on 325-mph dragsters. "That separates the top drivers from the rest."
