Pete Jensen

Taking a bunch out, however, was the plan of attack that Pete Jensen took in tuning Wally Giavia’s “G-Men” Challenger. While other drivers were slipping and sliding around, Giavia was straight and true to the provisional number-one position at 6.43. Kris Krabill in Uncle Bucky Austin’s beautiful Trans Am was second at 6.55. Bucky’s former driver Mark Hentges was third at 6.71. On the bump was Chris Davis in his Vega from Spokane at 9.20.

On Saturday a strange phenomenon occurred: the sunshine came out. It was, however, still extremely chilly as the wind was blowing cross track at nearly 20 miles per hour.

Tuner Ron Swearingen

This did allow many of the crew chiefs to get somewhat aggressive with their tuneups and this was reflected in the ET’s after Q2.

Ron Swearingen tuned the Dan Horan “Patriot” Mustang to the number-one spot with a blistering 6.01. Followed by Rich Townsend in the “Nitroholic” Camaro at 6.16 and lurking in the weeds was Kris Krabill at 6.18 in the Austin & O’Brien Firebird.
