Several of the Victory Racers consider Gateway their Home track and came out strong in the first round of Eliminations. Steve Stahlschmidt with his Wedge-powered 1965 Plymouth had a nice .024 reaction in his victory over Mike Volkart’s Chevelle. Clay Kossuth received a Competition Bye when BJ Bax’s GTO couldn’t make the call. He didn’t waste his run, though, cutting a .030 light and running 10.24 on his 10.25 index at 132 MPH. Not to be out done by her husband, Rosie Kossuth’s stellar .021 reaction took out close friend and fellow female competitor Mitzi Herzing. Stanley Rideout’s .048 light and 10.78 on his 10.75 index was enough for him to move on to the next round.
