This is when things got interesting for Krueger. With a storm moving in, the two remaining racers were told that they had 15 minutes to return for the finals. While servicing his red 1966 Hemi Plymouth, Krueger realized that he had a damaged radiator hose. Without hesitation, the man he had just defeated, Russ Berens, jumped to his aid and with the help of a couple of other competitors the hose was quickly replaced. Krueger made it to the staging lanes just in time for the finals call.

After a hard day of racing, it came down to two Victory Series veterans. When the smoke cleared, Krueger took the win over 2010 Series Champion Kossuth. Krueger’s .04 light and 11.08 held off Kossuth’s 10.27.

Points after Race One of Six:

  1. Wally Krueger - 82
  2. Clay Kossuth - 70
  3. Russ Berens - 69
  4. Stanley Rideout - 60
  5. Jeff Frees – 58

This was Krueger’s first win in the Victory Series and he was congratulated by many of his NSS competitors in the winner’s circle. The excited winner joked that he might have been the oldest racer in the class, but he could still get it done!

The next race in the Victory NSS Series will be at Iowa’s Tri State Raceway, June 7-8.
