Saturday night, May 19, was the first race of the 2014 season for the Western Fuel Altereds, and fifteen teams pulled into Southwestern International Raceway geared-up for the Tucson Dragway Reunion.
Pat Neal was on top with a stellar 6.68 at 209 mph to take the number-one qualifying spot and also take home the RBS Superchargers low qualifier award. Eric Gates and Greg Holman were close behind, both running 6’s.
Wheels-up launches by Lyle Greenberg and a cone-dropping pass by Kevin Knowles had the huge crowd of fans on their feet.

After a short intermission and a great cacklefest, the second round was underway. The round started out with the closest race of the night, with Jerry Hall and Mike Scott only separated by six-hundredths of a second.
This time around, Knowles figured out how to keep it in his own lane and laid down a nice 6.72 at 213 mph to take the top spot in the round along with top speed, followed closely by Holman and Gates.
