The Lachelts’ prize money was enough to get them back home to Canada.

Nevertheless, even getting to the race was an adventure for Lechelt and his father. “We get outside of Yakima and had two flats, one on the trailer and one on our old motor home. Thank God Les Schwab sponsors the track and they took really good care of us, and got us on the road again.”

The win is the second “Wally” for Lechelt and both times it was just the two of them at the race. “We usually have lots of friends and family come help when we are in Canada, but both wins it has been just me and dad,” said Dane.

The father and son team fighting adversity and getting the win -- their way.
