The first pair out was Wally Giavia in the G-Men Challenger and Robert Overholser at the keyboard of Don Nelson’s California Charger, Trans Am. At the green, both left together, but Overholser was first to the 60-ft. cone, as the Trans Am went into violent tire shake, and Giavia was spinning and shaking his way to a 6.46-175.47 win.

Next up was the AARP throwdown between Roger Garten in the Warhorse Mustang and Bob Godfrey in his orange K&N Cuda. This was the closest of the first round as Godfrey has bragging rights on the starting line, but Garten, driving Justin Taylor’s tune up, was able to get around Godfrey’s starting line advantage and take the 6.03 -237.78 win over Godfrey’s solid 6.15- 232.31 lap.

The final pair would pit local warrior Scott Stanger against 2014 March Meet Champion James Day.
