Current DRO series champ tuner Mike Bowen (Shawn’s father) and former Champ Paul Romine kick it around on the starting line.

In second round action Mellinger, who had damaged the body on his Challenger when he blew the burst panel on his supercharger in the first round, got the bye run and due to the fact the body was still being repaired idled down the left lane.

The second pairing saw Paul Romine and the “Man O’ War” Mustang against Kevin Lennon’s “Shake n’ Bake” Mopar. Romine was the prohibitive favorite and he left on Lennon and was on a very good pass but, with the front wheels off the ground he couldn’t steer the car and just before the eighth-mile mark it drifted into the guardwall, flattening the headers on the right side. Romine still had a 3.95 eighth-mile time to Lennon’s 4.38 but was DQ’d for hitting the guard wall and Kevin Lennon got his first round win in DRO competition with a 6.62 ET.
