Saturday is the day when the culmination of the spirit of the event comes together. The track staff is all dressed up in costumes with a central basic theme. This year it was the Beverly Hillbillies. Many of the competitors also dress up until it is time to race, then strict safety measures are always followed.

Just prior to the trick or treating, there is a huge kid’s costume contest. Hundreds of kids show up in their finest Halloween costumes in hopes of securing some of the prizes given out. However, this is an equal opportunity event, and after the kids are tucked away for the evening, the adults get their chance to get into the spirit of Halloween with the adult costume contest. It is very easy to say that the adults might have more fun than the kids might.

In the late afternoon, racing is concluded and the fun meter gets pegged to 11. First off, trick or treating takes place. Going pit to pit, trick or treating with 612 cars in the pits is a dentist’s dream come true. There were kids toting pillow cases full of bounty they had hauled in.

After about an hour is taken to trick or treat, then it is time for the Firebird Airshow. Nearly twenty cars made the call for the airshow, which is judged on the highest and the longest wheel stands. Throughout the weekend, it is easy to judge those racers who have the potential to compete in this event. There are even a couple who bring cars just to run in the wheel stand competition.
