Tom Fritz

In the next round Ward “slowed” to a 4.846/145.54 and Fritz, who put a massive holeshot on Ward, could on manage a 5.29 ET allowing Ward to advance to the final round. On the other side of the ladder Irwin and his Anglia picked the pace up with a 5.349/131.69 to Borowski’s 5.313/133.20, which was quicker than what he ran in the opening round and good for the ticket to the final.

After a long career as driver and a supercharged Pro Mod guru, Jim Oddy has “retired” and now goes AA Gasser racing.

As the time approached 11 p.m., Oddy and Borowski put the final touches on their drivetrain and engine. Al Borowski was going to need a sub-five-second pass and a great RT to have any hope of beating Junior Ward. Borowski “got up on the wheel” and cut a .019 light. In the other lane a tardy Ward knowing he had a serious performance advantage didn’t “push” the tree recording a .172 RT.

Boroski led at 60 feet by a tenth, but then something went south for the driver as he trailed Ward by a half-second 3.09 to a 3.59 and the race was over as Jr. Ward and Jim Oddy clinched their third straight championship.
