Super Chevy at Rockingham, NC

CLOSE STILL COUNTS AS YOUKER WINS

Whether the margin is as little as a front bumper or as much as 10 car lengths, Salisbury’s Jeremy Youker knows that a win is a win is a win.

Driving a modified 2010 Chevy Cobalt, Youker inched his way to the 4.70 Outlaws title Sunday at Rockingham Dragway in a rain-plagued Dieffenbach Superstore Super Chevy Show in which almost all the on-track action was condensed into a single day.

James Bunton

The No. 10 starter after missing the 4.70 second target by a healthy margin in qualifying, Youker took out No. 1 qualifier Donnie Gibbs Jr. of Mooresville in the semifinals and then stopped Statesville’s James Bunton in the final.

His margin of victory in those two final races was a combined .01 of a second -- .004 over Gibbs and .006 over Bunton.
