Final pair of the first session had points leader Ortiz and Dennis Hendrix side by side. Ortiz (near lane) launched hard and set Low ET of the first session with a 4.10 at 176.68 while Hendrix shook the tires as many did in the left lane and ran 5.04/155.93.

The tight racing surface claimed a few victims with tire shake and tuners were talking, more power needed and dialing it back depending on their situation. Four drivers dipped into the teens in this first go round and all were nitrous motivated. None of the blower brigade made a full pull in the first session.

E.J. Hickl

The second qualifying session again began with Hickl, who served notice in his blown Willys, ripping off a 4.08/179.78 while in the other lane Willett ran another 4.65/151.41, showing the consistency he’s known for.
