Just Wondering... What will be the “new direction” for the Fox Sports broadcast of NHRA national events in 2016? Generally when the owners of any sports franchise have control of the production, content and broadcast of their sports as the NHRA will have for the 2016 season and beyond, that broadcast can become much less objective and more infomercial. A good indicator of which direction the NHRA 2016 broadcasts will take will be how independent and forthright Mike Dunn’s replacement, Tony Pedregon, is as the new color/tech commentator for the Fox broadcasts.
Just Wondering... Topeka or no Topeka on the NHRA 2016 national event schedule? The real question is why? Despite hosting an NHRA national event and a LODRS race for many years, the track has been and still is a financial black hole for the city of Topeka and the string of lessees of that multi-function motorsports park.
Just Wondering... If the NHRA has to replace Topeka on their schedule because they are contractually obligated to 24 races is there another track in a large U.S. population area capable of supporting an NHRA national event that already doesn't have an NHRA National Event?
Just Wondering... Wouldn’t an NHRA Nitro Jr. Dragster class limited to drivers over 14-18 years of age be cool? They’re never too young to be introduced to nitro and I think JD racers fans would love the addition of a nitro burning class.
Just Wondering... What percentage of active drag strips in North America don’t have either an IHRA or NHRA sanction and operate as “outlaw” tracks?
Just Wondering... Remember when the CHRR race at Bakersfield was an actual racer/fan reunion? When it was absolutely the best attended, most beloved nostalgia race in existence? Well, evidently for many fans and participants that’s not the case anymore. Since the responsibility for putting on the event reportedly has been shifted from the Museum staff to the NHRA national event team the atmosphere of the race noticeably changed this year losing some of the charm and appeal for racers, fans and industry types who have supported it over the years.
Just Wondering... Speaking of nostalgia, why hasn’t some smart AA/FC racer cut a deal with Don Prudhomme to build a clone Army Monza or Tom to build one of his Mopars mand really cashed in on the “big nostalgia match race money”?
Just Wondering... Why build a tribute Pro Stocker that was driven by Warren Johnson, Bob Glidden, or any other well known Pro Stock racer and put a 700 inch big block nitrous motor backed by an automatic trans behind the motor plate? I believe fans who pay to see nostalgia race cars want them to be as period-correct as possible and in most cases would rather see a real tribute car run the same ET and speed numbers it did when it was racing.
Just Wondering... I hear that Steve Gibbs and the CHRR folks are expecting they may get upwards of 100 “cackle” cars for the 25th anniversary California Hot Rod Reunion in 2016. My question is: is being the original owner/driver of a front-motored Top Fuel car required to build, enter, and “cackle” a vintage front-motored Dragster/Fuel Altered at the CHRR and are there 100 of those men and cars out there?
