Rahaim drove his nitrous oxide-injected 2015 Camaro to the win over Pete Farber’s supercharged ‘69 Dodge Daytona in a classic Pro Mod match-up of dissimilar cars and engine combinations. Rahaim’s TLC Waste Disposal-backed Corvette ran a 5.957 at 243.99 mph, defeating Farber's 8.965 at 107.26 in the finals. It was Rahaim's seventh career race in the category. Rahaim was the No. 9 qualifier and defeated Mike Castellana, No. 1 qualifier Don Walsh, and Troy Coughlin on the way to the final.
"We hadn't even won a round of competition before yesterday," Rahaim said in a post race interview. "First round of eliminations, we were fortunate enough to take that win. We didn't beat ourselves. I guess the consistency of going down the track every time won this event for us."
Twenty-seven NHRA Pro Mods (more entries than any other professional class at the Gators) tried to qualify for just 16 spots. Unlike all other pro classes the Pro Mod racers get just three qualifying sessions instead of the four all other classes are afforded, which makes qualifying that much more pressure-packed and difficult.
After three rounds of qualifying it was apparent that at least at this event the turbocharged cars had the performance advantage. All of the 250+ mph passes at Gainesville were made by turbocharged cars. Qualifying was led by Don Walsh driving his turbocharged ‘14 Camaro to the top qualifying spot with a 5.832/248.02 effort. Rookie T.J. Coughlin put his turbocharged '12 Corvette into the second spot with a 5.876/251.49 and later set Top Speed of the meet at 252.43 mph.
