PSCA Spring Shootout

Mel Roth’s Pacific Street Car Association held their first race in several months in the hot bed of all drag racing, Southern California. The racer turnout was excellent even without the big guns we are used to seeing at the Super Nationals in Las Vegas

The ‘Chris Alston Chassis Works Spring Shootout’ at Fontana’s Auto Club Raceway could have doubled for the ‘Summer Nationals’ as untimely heat greeted ‘Test & Tuners’ on Friday with temperatures in the mid 90s. Saturday cooled off to only 88degrees, but a consistent tail wind prevailed during the afternoon.

One heavy hitter allowed to race at Fontana under the limited ‘noise abatement’ rules which allowed the track to re-openlast year, is Alex Rogeo with her famous ‘maggie’. A full bodied Dodge Magnum Station Wagon weighing just over 4,000#s. The car runs consistently in the 10 second bracket. When last seen, it was runner-up in class (modern HEMI muscle) at the MOPARS AT THE STRIP event in Las Vegas.

At every PCSA race this reporter has covered, the last few years, Alex and Richard have been a big part of the overall presentation. The ‘Spring Shootout’ was no exception as the Magnum was running 10.50 sec. elapsed times and Alex was selling her car care products like ;hot cakes’.

Mustangs were plentiful at the ‘Shootout’ as the group seems to expand each race.Their performance is phenomenal too, with turbo charging and crankshaft driven blowers. When the dust settled, Justen Spencer, had finished Runner/up to John Marquardt in Accufab Mustang Madness. Other Mustang winners included Paul Wolfe in Ross Triple Index, and Kelly Davis who upset high flying Brian Rogers for the Brodix Bracket 1 title.
