The second event on the NHRA Heritage Series Funny Car point's series brought the teams back to Idaho and a stop at Firebird Raceway located outside of Eagle.

There was a great deal of anticipation coming into this event, as the racers would be looking a completely rejuvenated racing surface. Over the past decade summer heat, snow and frigid winter temperatures took its toll on the racing surface, causing some unsettling characteristics to it.

"It was our intention to address the track in 2014, but when dad {Bill New} got sick [and later passed away] those plans were put on the back burner," stated General Manager Scott New.

The New family is fiercely prideful, and took the comments of racers and media types to heart. They enlisted the help of some very experienced and skillful experts in the business of making asphalt and concrete surfaces flat and true.

After many months of work and expending resources, the racing surface at the venerable track was better than almost every racer had expected.

The most common phase heard from racers across the board was, "It is like night and day".

Funny car racer Roger Garten said after the second qualifying session (the first one was washed out due to heavy rains), "We completely under estimated the track; we didn't think it would be that good. The groove is still a little narrow at the big end, but that is why you have a steering wheel in these cars."

Not many drivers needed them as the track made for straight true passes.
