NSA

The NSA bike show was highlighted by John Hobbs celebrating fifty years of competition ion and, by fortunate coincidence, forty years since Hobbs (left) debuted the iconic supercharged twin Weslake Hobbit. An addition to the event over the weekend was the reuniting of Hobbs and Jonny Munn (right) who had traveled from Australia to return to the seat of the Hobbit that he had ridden with considerable distinction in the early eighties and, as part of the festivities, Hobbs and Munn match raced with the former on a recreation of his record holding single motored Olympus and Munn on the Hobbit.

Another returnee was the notorious 500cc single cylinder Jawa of Jan Honee that propelled the Dutch rider deep into low 8’s back in the early nineties and astounding the Stateside watchers with a 8.19 on a trip to Gainesville. The bike has largely been dormant since then until a plan to refettling to make Dragstalgia was hatched. After a few teething problems Honee and Marius van der Zijden managed to get the unique cycle into the 9’s on a comparatively light dose of pop.

If we are talking unique, Terry Homan brought along the Drag Waye ‘slingshot’ that was built by Clive Waye back in the 1960’s and powered by a supercharged VW flat four engine. Although not quite ready to emulate original rider Dave Lecoq’s feats of daring do, Homan managed to fire the bike up in the pits so perhaps it won’t be too long before he straddles the rear wheel and gets the bike moving under its own power.
