Micke Gullqvist   Håkan Persson

Micke Gullqvist had spent the first half of the season largely tripping himself up on elimination day but managed to turn things around at the preceding NitrOlympX in Germany. To say the Pampas Marina/Stavdal driver continued in the same vein on home soil would be something of an understatement, qualifying low with a 5.8489 (but not sweeping the bonus points), dropping a 5.8486 in the opening round of eliminations to defeat Samuel Andersson’s nitrous’ed Mustang, staying in the 5.8’s with a 5.8598 to progress to the semis ahead of a redlighting Anders Nilsson where Håkan Persson’s PB of a 6.0495s from his supercharged Viper was a distant second to a 5.8821 from Gullan.

The finalist from the other side of the ladder would emerge from an all nitrous semifinal with Odd Erik Fossum’s Camaro bouncing back from a two car crash in Norway a couple of weeks prior to the Scandinavian Internationals to extend his FIA debut to the final four alongside Roger Johansson’s Mustang. A burp on the startline ended Fossum’s day there, whilst Johansson’s 6.0671 would fall to Gullqvist’s 5.8822 with the latter moving just ahead of Mats Eriksson in the points.

Speed marks in the class served as a spectacular side dish with Tero Laukkanen adding the best part of 10 mph to his own terminal speed record with a 260.11mph (backed up by a 258.71 mph) in qualifying from the Laukkanen Motorsport Precision Turbo boosted Mustang, whilst Gullqvist also produced a 251.15mph in qualifying to set the fastest speed recorded by a blown pro mod in Europe.
