Championship points leader Jimmy Young at the wheel of the “Young Guns” Top Fueler made the fastest lap in the history of the series with a 263+ qualifying effort. He also ran a 259.12 during qualifying, which was the provisional new series speed record until Hartman bettered it by .70 mph on the very last lap of the race.
