Meziere Enterprises sponsored the first race of the weekend, the “Meziere Cool Down Pro Gas Nationals” and the ever-consistent Dave Meziere took home the event trophy and winner’s check when he drove his ’05 Chevy Cavalier to a final round win over Dennis Sato, who was unable to make call due to breakage on his semifinal win over Darryl Mitchell Jr. Meziere beat Greg Ventura in his double-breakout semifinal race.

The K&N Filters/Lucas Oil Products Pro Gas Finals saw a lot of drama, as the Herems and Blodgett Jr., all had a legitimate shot at the series championship. Blodgett lost in the second round, and it appeared either of the Herem’s had a shot at the title. Brenden then lost in round three on a .007 breakout to Randy Balough, and Ryan Herem went on to win, but was a round short of being able to catch Blodgett. Blodgett’s father, Mike Blodgett Sr., won the Pro Gas championship in 2004.

As for the final event, Ryan Herem defeated Don Ruble Jr., in the semifinals when Ruble broke-out and Herem got a lucky break as his ’62 Corvette broke a pushrod. Randy Balough advanced to the final with a 9.894 timing as Napa, Calif., racer Bob Hefley drew a .003 redlight.

Herem (near lane) and Balough met in the final round, with Balough getting a .003 better light (.019 to a .022), but it was Herem’s 9.881, 150.50 for the win as Balough’s Corvette lost with a 9.863, 156.55.
