Cunningham had traction issues off the line moving toward the centerline and had to lift when he lost power, coasting through at 8.50 @ 40.68 as Blomberg again powered down track for a 4.34 @ 165.38. Domino and Collins came up next with Collins running right down the groove at 4.45 @ 156.41 while Domino made a move left off the line and had to lift and get back in it and pushed thru to a 4.65 @ 115.47.

The silver Camaro of Louis Hidalgo and Eddie Roach both ran solid numbers next with Roach posting a 4.30 @ 167.41 to Hidalgo’s 4.43 @ 157.40. Points leader Gulitti came up next along side Jerry Hicks blown ’63 Vette and lost traction at the hit and coasted to the traps at 9.55 @ 44.63 as Hicks left hard and shut off past half track with a 4.90 @ 109.49 The final runs of the second qualifying session had number two in points, Ortiz, leave the line hard and get up on the wheelie bars and unload the car loosing traction and coasting to a 10.33 @ 63.02, while Harry Crane drifted left and hugged the wall all the way through to post a dust flying 4.41 @ 137.20.

The final qualifying order ended up as follows...

5. Harry Crane 4.29 @ 149.95

7. Eddie Roach 4.30 @ 167.41

8. Jerry Hicks 4.38 @ 158.39

9. Jeff Naiser 4.39 @ 127.23

10. Louis Hidalgo 4.43 @ 157.40
