Ignitor at Boise, Idaho

Krabill Storms the Field

The Funny Car final.

When random occurrences happen simultaneously, it is concurrent. Well that is the best word to describe what happened April 29-May 1 at Firebird Raceway, just north of Eagle, Idaho.

Those random occurrences were: 1) Great weather (except for strong headwinds on Friday and Saturday) with excellent temperatures and the perfect touch of humidity to build great horsepower; 2) Teams who have worked hard on new combinations or have retooled their team personnel and that combination of talent has begun to gel; and 3) A racing surface that in the winter of 2014/2015 was given a major makeover and, after a year of seasoning, really came into its own.

When these three things occurred this weekend, it was a perfect storm for mind-blowing performances at the second stop for the NHRA Heritage Series Funny Cars at the 46th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor Opener Presented by Peterson Chevrolet.

The track placed a memorial marker for long-time starter Joel Eggers, who was killed by a car while walking along a roadside last month.
