With such a big turbo on such a short wheelbase maybe Phil Penny would need Jesus to be a passenger on his Modified 10.5 tyred jigger. This saw the little car smoke the tyres more than once however with a couple of wins also under his belt he was crowned Modified 10.5 runner up.

Like he has done so many times before but the Sydney Jamboree saw Domenic Rigoli take the Tony Rigoli Performance EG33 turbo powered Subaru Impreza rear wheel drive WRX to another world record – this time he runs 7.29 at 200 mph.

Sometimes one needs reminding about why you actually go to the races and the driver of this little yellow VW, Henry Spicak did just that to me. With nothing happening in the drag strip for the first half of the day I caught up with Spicak in the staging lanes. He has been racing this car for well over twenty years and while he isn’t a national champion he told me “I just love to be on the race track”. With unbridled enthusiasm and a car that he built for not only show but for go Henry has the best of both worlds.
