Jim McCombs at (82) and John Majestic did a superb job on the microphones bringing back many awesome times about our sport, even before I started my career over 50 years ago. Over 3500 spectators were on hand even though the makeshift grandstands would probably only hold maybe 200 fans. The lineup of easy ups ran from the starting line all the way down past the finish line of the eighth-mile track, to watch over 300 cars going down Eagle Field Runway.

It was Gassers galore of every body style, including a Standard 8 that looks exactly like an Anglia, early Mopars, several Willys and Henry J bodied machines, plus many Camaros and Novas. At least four Top Fuel cars including Andi Humeik, Bobby Hansen, and Aaron Vonminden. Rich Heidt & Sons rebuilt the 1960s style small block Chevy from Fresno that terrorized the Central California strip, and even ran down south at Lions and San Fernando too. The just completed Keeter & Amyx dragster made an appearance and the story on that car is that it was built in the ’60s but never actually ran till this weekend.
